Concession Charge
Since the introduction of the 30 hours funding, all childcare providers have been able to put a voluntary charge to parents for consumables, additional services etc. This is the advice we are given by the department of education:
“Government funding is intended to deliver 15 or 30 hours a week of free, high quality, flexible childcare. It is not intended to cover the costs of food, other consumables, additional hours or additional activities. Parents can therefore expect to pay for any meals and can also expect to pay for other consumables or additional activities offered by the provider.”
Up to now, we have not needed to apply this charge, other than for snack. Due to inflation, our rent and staff wages (in line with government increases) have all increased. For every funded child we take we lose money or make very little profit and over 95% of our nursery are funded. We are proud to be one of the lowest priced nurseries in the area and we offer many extra-curricular activities. We do not want to reduce what we offer to the children and we do not want to put restrictions on the use of funded hours but we also want to survive. After much discussion we are going to implement an additional services charge. This additional services charge will be £1.25 per hour. The £1.25 will go towards the following:
Daily snacks
Consumables including children’s stationary and art/craft resources
Specialist instructors for dance, music, drama and sports
Visitors including travelling theatre companies and animal experiences
Celebration days including Christmas party, Easter Party, end of year party and preschool graduation
Families of more than one child in nursery will only pay for one child. We will not ask for money from funded two year olds or children who receive early years pupil premium.
Free Childcare (3-4 year olds)
If your child is between three and four they may be eligible for Early Years Funding. This includes 15 hours per week free childcare.
Please check below to find out if your child is eligible.

We also accept children who are eligible for free two year old funding.
Please check below to find out if your child is eligible.
Extended Childcare (3-4 year olds)
Parents who meet the following eligibility criteria will be entitled to an additional 15 hours free of charge:
Both parents must be working.
Each parent earns, on average:
A weekly minimum equivalent to 16 hours at national minimum wage or national living wage (equivalent to 120 per week for over 25s)
Less than £100,000 per year.
Families where one parent does not work (or neither parent works) will not usually be eligible for the extended entitlement. However in other certain circumstances parents may be eligible to the additional hours. Please check eligibility by visiting www.gov.uk/childcare-calculator as soon as your child becomes three, this will enable funding to be accessed the term following their third birthday. You will need to access an online account via www.childcarechoices.gov.uk and be given an eleven-digit number. You MUST provide us with this number and your National Insurance number. You will be expected to reconfirm your eligibility every three months and should receive a reminder from HMRC to prompt you to do this.
The extended entitlement allows you to access a further 15 hours a week. Therefore you can claim a total of 1140 hours in a year (15 universal and 15 extended).
Free Childcare (2-3 year olds)
As of September 2024, new eligibility criteria has come in for 2-3 year olds. Subsequently, parents of 2-3 year old’s are now entitled to 15 hours of free childcare where the following criteria apply:
